The total area of Iceland is 103,000 square kilometers. The total land area ia 100,250 square kilometers. The total water are is 2,750 square kilometers. The population is about 296,737, as you can see, not many people live in Iceland. The languages that are spoken in Iceland are Icelandic, English, Nordic languages, and some German is spoken. Iceland has been independent for over 300 years, it was subsequently ruled by Denmark and Norway. Due to a volcanoe eruption in 1875, Iceland's economy was devastated and widespread famine had occured. over the next 25 years, 20% of Icelands population emigrated mostly to Canada and the United States,

Iceland is located between the Greenland Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean, northwest of the UK. The geographic coordinates of Iceland ( the best place ever ) are 65 N and 18 W. The climate is as followed: it is temperate; moderated by North Atlantic Current; mild, winder winters; damp, cool summers. Some natural resources of Iceland are fish, hydropower, geothermal power, and diatomite.

Religion: Evangelical Lutheran 87.1%, other Protestant 4.1%, Roman Catholic 1.7%, other 7.1%<> Life Expectancy: 80.18<> Literacy Rate: 99.9%<> Ethnic Composition: homogeneous mixture of descendants of Norse and Celts 94%, population of foreign origin 6%<> Women normally maintain their original surnames after marriage. This system of surnames is required by law, except for the descendants of those who had acquired family names before 1913. Most Icelanders, while reserved by nature, rarely call each other by their surnames, and even phone directories are based on first names. Because of its small size and relative homogeneity, Iceland holds all the characteristics of a very close-knit society. Growth rate at highest in 1950. Has been decreasing since 1960.<>

Iceland's government is constitutional republic. The capital of Iceland is Reykjavik. Iceland has 8 administrative divisions: Austurland, Hofudhborgarsvaedhi, Nordhurland Eystra, Nordhurland, vestra, Sudhurland, Sudhurnes, Vestfirdhir, and Vesturland.

The total amount of highways is 13,004 kilometers. There are ports and harbors in Akureyri, hornafjordhur, Isafjordhur, Keflavik, Raufarhofin, Reykjavik, Seydhisfjordhur, Straumsvik, and Vesttmannaeyjar. There are 98 airports in Iceland.
Transportation



The most impressive animal that you can see in Iceland is the whale. Most people will encounter the Minky Whale. If your lucky, you can see the hunchback or blue whale. There are also many different species of birds. Including the Great Skuas, fulmas, black backed gulls, gannets, cormorant shags and some puffins. There are also many seals near the coasts of Iceland, they mainly stay in colonies.
