RUTHERFORD'S STORY; Rutherford B. Hayes is a six week old puppy that I had the pleasure to meet at a fundraiser that we had in our honor last month. {March 2005} Unfortunately, his story is a sad one, but none the less one that needs to be told. R.B.H. was run over by a car and severely injured. As if that isn't bad enough the people that ran him over then abandoned him at the vets office and demanded he be euthanized as they didn't want to pay for his medical care. Lucky for R.B.H. he found a vet tech there that fell in love with him and asked if she could have him and see to his care. Well, they were only too happy to sign over all rights to her just to avoid having to pay for medical care for this baby. He suffered severe trauma to his right rear leg that has required major extensive medical care thus far. The vet caring for Rutherford is still not 100% sure that he will be able to keep the leg. {We sure are trying everything we can though} This little guy may be facing an amputation after all is said and done. Through it all he remains a real angel. Through all the pain of the daily bandage changes and cleaning of the wound he still manages to give you a kiss. He is a good patient. Little R.B.H. LOVES to run and play {Okay, well for now it is a hobble, but he sure is able to pick up some speed} Here is our plea to you all that visit the Rutherford site. We need to raise funds for his continued care and potential amputation. Thus far his medical expenses have exceeded $900.00. Next week he needs to go back to the vet for more tests and to re-shoot the x-ray. Currently R.B.H. is living with a true rescue angel. Laura has taken him into her home as a foster and due to the fact he is really growing on her, {he has a way of doing that} she very well might adopt little R.B.H. We have developed a special Rutherford B. Hayes fund for his care.
